Weekly "Dreamon" devlog (week 02)


Week 02

Hey hey hey, welcome to the second devlog for "Duality".  Just to make things clear, this project has a new name now - "Dreamon"! Changes have been made for a few reasons. (It fits game idea better now, it has a nice pun in it and I just simply felt like this change is for better)

What's new:

Moving on to what's new and important:

  • New attacking system. Now player can combo his hits up to 3 times. This action will be rewarded by increasing damage with every hit and satisfying looking last hit effect. Damage registration has been fixed too. Now enemies get damaged, when proper animation frame starts, instead of getting hit right after attack key has been pressed. It is big Improvement on game smoothness and level of pleasure you gain while playing!

  • Smarter camera movement. Screen is no longer occupied with visual information, that is not needed at all. Camera smoothly follows the action happening in the scene. It is not the last change for the camera, but I believe, that it was a huuge leap towards the right direction.

  • Dust particles while moving. It is pretty much self explanatory. There are new particles while player is walking, jumping and landing. It will help to make game game feel more nice and interactive. Additionally, method, that I used to call dust particles when landed will help me to implement player landing animations.

  • New cover image for the game and devlogs.


I was thinking about starting creating short videos on my progress, but for now, I don't think that this would be a great choice from me. Share your opinion on this in the comments.

These are all major updates, that I had time to make. Next week I am planning to start making a system, that will let player upgrade his combat power. Stay tuned to see, how it all will turn out.
